Frankie, moving, volunteers, and graphic design contest

(Apologies for the long message, but it's all important!)

The OSDS Exec has been talking all week about how to celebrate the life of one of Lindy Hop's greatest contributors, Frankie Manning. You've all probably read the obituaries by now, and if you didn't know already, you've discovered what an inspiration he was: inventing the first air step, choreographing the first group lindy routine, impressing everyone with his musicality, athletism, charm, and eternal youthfulness.

With all of this in mind, the OSDS will be dedicating our Friday night dance to Frankie and welcoming the wonderful Alana Hock to lead the shim sham in honour of Frankie. This is particularly special since Alana had actually assisted Frankie in teaching some of his classes. Thank you Alana!

But the best way for the Ottawa community to honour Frankie is for each and every one of you to dance your hearts out and pass on the love for the dance that Frankie has passed on to us. So I urge you all to dance as much as you can this weekend: dance in your living rooms, dance at the office, dance with us tomorrow night at the OSDS Friday night dance, and keep dancing at Saturday Night Swing with Swing Dynamite!!! Dance until your feet hurt and then keep going!! Think of Frankie tirelessly dancing at 94, and keep swinging!

Also, this Friday is special in that it's our last at our present location. One last dance, and then we'll be moving up the road to All Saint's Church next week (May 8th). For our housewarming party on May 8th, we welcome the one and only Solomon Douglas to usher us into our new location.

And if you're dancing anyways, what better way to help the community than by volunteering. We still need people for door shifts as well as set up and tear down. Please email me if you can help. (Remember - you get in free if you lend a hand.)
